I think you're making the mistake of conflating "Experience" with "Things that happen" Different people experience the things that happen to them differently. It's possible if you'd taken one different turn in your life, watched a certain cartoon in your childhood, read a different book in your adolescence, made a different friend, that the things that happen in your life you would remain the same, but you would experience them in the same exact way that your boyfriend does.
