while he's a dick for not accepting "I don't like it" as an answer...lbr anon if you only read the shitty Jump translation back in the day (Zolo, for real????) and the 4Kids dub, you haven't discovered why this is his favorite series.

I may be a hardcore One Piece fan but I also recognize that people don't like things and that's okay. But as someone who once hated it and now doesn't, I can also say that you haven't experienced the story correctly yet.

Different anon here.

I experienced One Piece with subs, and I gave it 30 episodes. I started off neutral and ended up despising it.

I found the art terrible, but wasn't put off by that. It was the story. Guy has a dream and won't let it go. Even though it's dangerous. Even though it's damaging his health. Even though he's putting others at risk around him, and might kill all of them. Not to mention it's a stupid dream anyway and it will be impossible to tell even if he's achieved it.

Sometimes people just have different tastes. No matter how I'd experienced One Piece, I'd have hated it because the central storyline is something I despise and it's repeated every ten minutes in case we've somehow managed to forget. No superior version is going to change that.

Or maybe OP just doesn't like it regardless of crappy translation or whatever. I've tried watching/reading One Piece and the reasons I don't like it have NOTHING to do with the translation work.

While I can appreciate why it's such a popular series, there was really nothing about the series that clicked with me. Not the story, the characters, the art, nothing. I do read summaries just so I know what my friend's talking about, but I feel like if I liked it, it would've grabbed me even with the lousy translation because then I would've been motivated to seek out some good subs. Lord knows I've had enough links thrown at me.
