I experienced One Piece with subs, and I gave it 30 episodes. I started off neutral and ended up despising it.

I found the art terrible, but wasn't put off by that. It was the story. Guy has a dream and won't let it go. Even though it's dangerous. Even though it's damaging his health. Even though he's putting others at risk around him, and might kill all of them. Not to mention it's a stupid dream anyway and it will be impossible to tell even if he's achieved it.

Sometimes people just have different tastes. No matter how I'd experienced One Piece, I'd have hated it because the central storyline is something I despise and it's repeated every ten minutes in case we've somehow managed to forget. No superior version is going to change that.
