I really liked it for the most part but I had a few issues. Spoilers below.

I have to roll my eyes at how horrified they were at finding out they were eating insects when they had already knowingly resorted to cannibalism before.

I felt the same! When they first looked into the vat, I was sure I was going to see the kids they'd taken earlier or dead bodies. When it was just insects, I thought that wasn't too bad. Not my cup of tea but I know several cultures eat bugs, and there's a push to say that bugs are more nutritious and better to get protein from than ranch-farming. Even rats would've been worse for me a squeamish level. (And where do all those bugs come from, one wonders?)

So, you're definitely not alone on that. :)

I don't remember the guy who found out being horrified so much as angry about the bugs, and that was because 1) it was the entire end car that was being fed them 2) on purpose 3) without knowing about it. With the cannibalism it was a last resort that they nevertheless chose to do themselves, and some people took the choice to die instead.
