I was around for the tail end of LJ's glory days for a couple of years. Then I had a nervous breakdown and took some time off fandom, and by the time I came back to it everything was on Tumblr and I was like "wtf is this?!" It's not so much the style of the site as it is the culture (though those are probably linked) - everyone is so young and it's just impossible to escape the "everything is problematic!!!" people in fandom these days, haha. LJ had its share of drama, but it seems like the wank was more fun to laugh at and it was easier to find your niche of chill people to laugh with.

I mostly miss roleplaying on LJ, though I have to admit I no longer have the time or energy for something that intensive. RPing on Tumblr just isn't the same and I've never really "gotten" it. Ah, well. I do have a pretty great RP group now so I can't complain... just, nostalgia.

I'm starting to get an allergy to "problematic" the way people use it as the go-to ten-ton hammer to shut down argument or dialog.

The whole... idk, SJW style of rhetoric makes me just irrationally angry for some reason. Like, they could be saying something totally reasonable that I agree with and I'll still want to punch someone in the face because it's full of words like "erasure" and "blackness" and "vagina-havers."

They're often the best words for the job though? Neologisms are necessary for recent concepts like that. Yeah sure, if they're being abused like "problematic" is, and the "throw a bunch of buzzwords in to sound with it" can be irritating, but words like "erasure" are effective shorthands for complicated concepts.

i feel my year in SPN was the same as your experience on LJ. I was on LJ for quite a while before that, but before SPN it was alive and active and thhe comms I frequented while in SPN were active but when I got out and moved on to the Hobbit... it's like that place over there I sometimes heard about had snuck up and stolen half of Fandom and the other half was soon following it.
