I hope all this comes out right....
I can understand as I still feel guilt and secondhand embarrassment for the majority of things I did in my earliest fandom years, and I wish I could apologize for all the older fans who I bothered, annoyed,or accidentally offended I'm not entirely sure which of these applies for many of them. Maybe all three. Gulp.)
Apologizing for anything you did in the past is a good step, but it's probably not good to spend too long agonizing on messing up with one person. Just try to do better in the future I guess.

But anyway, if you did come on too strong or sound like you were questioning their knowledge that's unfortunate, but people make mistakes. Apologizing to the person this happened to would be a good step (if you even see this person on a regular basis); maybe they would even be open to a conversation? If not, well, at least you'll stop cringing so much when you think back on it.
