Academics who aren't hateful weirdos

AKA The Big Bang Theory.

Working college professors are astoundingly normal. They're all terrified of certain other professors finding out they're subscribed to cable but they then go home and watch the NFL game and read popular fiction.

It's a job, dudes. They're pretty much as normal as the teachers at your high school. Some are dicks, some are sweethearts. They're just also smart and don't hide nerdy interests.

TBF I think that's much more common in most things other than Big Bang Theory

If anything, I would say that film & media tends to display academia as more glamorous than it really is

Where? I'm not even arguing, where is this show? I haven't seen it. That theme seems to be missing from media in the 2000s (you can find earlier stuff granted).

It seems that your options as a fictional academic are "mean," "total weirdo and unwilling virgin," "completely fucking insane" and "Professor McGonagall" but I'd love to be proven wrong.

She works at a school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. No way are we getting a position like that in this job market. It's unrealistic.

Umm...so?

Why does her job being something from a...I dunno FANTASY NOVEL mean she is a bad example of a childless woman?

.....wait...wrong stereotype/role..Durrrr.

I remember a lot of arguments online about whether or not McGonagall is a good example of a woman without kids.

Anyway. Why is she a bad example of an academic. there's more to her personality than just magic. She seems to be the cool teacher who cares about her students. Is that not a good example of a teacher/academic character.
