Re: Rich people

The rational part of me says it's anyone who can have a medical emergency and not be completely ruined financially by it.

The bitter part of me says anyone who has five more dollars than I do. I try not to let that part dictate my thinking, but it's hard sometimes.

Haha, I know rich people who would say the same thing about anyone having 5 dollars more than them are "rich" and they're middle class!! To be rich you have to have 5 million, not only 4!!

On the other hand I know people who I would say are upper-middle who could take a medical emergency and not be 100% ruined.

But, "surprise medical expenses are not at all a financial worry" is definitely rich.

Pretty much all but the very top echelon of rich in Australia like to pretend they are "middle class" whereas naaaahhhh. (Fortunately medical emergencies are free if you don't choose to pay for health insurance which the rich all do - nicer hospitals.)

The rich going on about how haaaard it is to live on 150K a year make me sick. Overhearing a conversation with two guys bemoaning their living expenses and how struggling they were, when they lived in the richest part of Australia and one of them at least earning 200K, made me want to vomit on their lunches.

Meanwhile I'm on a disability pension watching literally every dollar and I'm supposed to be the real reason Australia is poor, as opposed to all the exploitative tax-avoiding fuckers I have known.

^^^^^^^

A-fucking-men to this entire post.

Australia likes to pretend we're sooooo egalitarian, and it's a crock of shit. We've inherited British classism and racism up to the eyeballs, and no one talks about it (or we talk about it as if it's this ~mystery~ problem, like why did it happen, where did it come from? we just don't know!)
