Whoever wrote Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I love alliterative verse and kenning. I love playing with words in this manner and wish I was better at it.

Tolkien. I love his command of language. He's very particular about what word he uses when and knows the meaning behind it and that's important in why he chooses it. I also enjoy a more archaic style of writing, both reading and writing it. I love the history he so casually drops into his world, and the sheer creativity he had.
