Mmhm. Horror movies also give people a safe way to confront and deal with whatever fears they have. And some people just really like a good scary story in and of itself :D.

My adrenaline must be broken. I hate being stressed out, jumpy and paranoid, and I can never get it out of my head after the movie is over. Really disturbing stuff takes weeks to get out of my head and to be able to ignore once I randomly see it when I close my eyes to go to bed at night.

As a horror fan, it happens to me too, though it depends on the subject matter. Monsters eating people, no big deal. The infected in Crossed, who are basically the embodiment of pure, unthinking evil, subject to their worst whims and thoughts? Bad dreams for days.

The scariest horror movies for me are the ones that deal with things that could actually happen in the real world.

And even then, a lot of horror movies tend to pale in comparison to just turning on the damn news a lot of the time :/.

I'm the other way. I tend to find real-world horror unscary, because I can apply rationality to it. If it could happen in the real world, then I can say to myself, "How likely is it that this would happen to me? Do I have a good reason to be more afraid of it now than I did before watching this movie?" And the answer is always, "Incredibly unlikely, and no." (I watched Silence Of The Lambs alone in my house after midnight and was completely fine.)

Whereas supernatural stuff deflects rational thinking, so if it's good enough that it gets me to suspend my disbelief, then it's under my skin and I can't reason with it. If there could be a creature in my closet, then there probably fucking is one in there right fucking now.
