-Horror movies/attractions. I don't get it at all. I get stressed out while I watch them, which isn't fun, and after I get paranoid for like a week straight when I'm alone in my apartment at night, no matter how stupid the horror movie was. I hate jump scares and gore, torture, etc.

-Sports. I maybe preaching to the choir here, but if someone has sports on TV, my eyes automatically go to the wall. I can't take it in. Playing sports is one thing, but watching them? Boooring. On that note, sports video games, too.

Adrenalin for the first one.

Mmhm. Horror movies also give people a safe way to confront and deal with whatever fears they have. And some people just really like a good scary story in and of itself :D.

My adrenaline must be broken. I hate being stressed out, jumpy and paranoid, and I can never get it out of my head after the movie is over. Really disturbing stuff takes weeks to get out of my head and to be able to ignore once I randomly see it when I close my eyes to go to bed at night.

As a horror fan, it happens to me too, though it depends on the subject matter. Monsters eating people, no big deal. The infected in Crossed, who are basically the embodiment of pure, unthinking evil, subject to their worst whims and thoughts? Bad dreams for days.

The scariest horror movies for me are the ones that deal with things that could actually happen in the real world.

And even then, a lot of horror movies tend to pale in comparison to just turning on the damn news a lot of the time :/.

I'm the other way. I tend to find real-world horror unscary, because I can apply rationality to it. If it could happen in the real world, then I can say to myself, "How likely is it that this would happen to me? Do I have a good reason to be more afraid of it now than I did before watching this movie?" And the answer is always, "Incredibly unlikely, and no." (I watched Silence Of The Lambs alone in my house after midnight and was completely fine.)

Whereas supernatural stuff deflects rational thinking, so if it's good enough that it gets me to suspend my disbelief, then it's under my skin and I can't reason with it. If there could be a creature in my closet, then there probably fucking is one in there right fucking now.

I can understand watching some sports even if I don't like it. What I really don't get is football. Everyone lines up and they run around for a few seconds and then it stops and then they line up again and go for another few seconds and then it stops again. It just seems really frustrating. I'm a generally patient person but I don't have time for that.

I actually enjoy slower moving sports like American football and baseball more. I have trouble keeping up or understanding what is happening in things like soccer or basketball.

On the rare occasions when I watch horror movies, it's usually through my fingers. Sometimes if the violence is really shocking I'll laugh while still thinking "holy shit that's disgusting", but I hate jump scares and gore. So sometimes horror-comedies are okay, but I don't seek them out.
100% agreed on sports though. Even stuff that looks very graceful and impressive still isn't fun to watch for long.

Don't feel too bad because you don't like horror movies. It's not for everyone. There doesn't really seem to be any real consensus on why some people love horror movies, but my theory is it has to do with a mix of adrenaline rush and cringe entertainment. What's funny is, I've been watching horror movies/playing horror games for so long that very little actually affects me anymore. The most I get is the occasional cold chill up my back when playing Afraid of Monsters, which is still the last true scary game for me despite having played it like 15 times. Probably because it's so lo-fi; the newer games with all their fancy graphics don't do it for me.

There's also an artistic/academic argument to be made with some works. There are some horror movies that I love that I would not classify as 'fun;' Videodrome is a good example in which a really creepy flick about a sleazy cable exec who discovers a pirate BDSM/snuff porn broadcast and tries to seek the source, but the real meat of the film is in its exploration of the relationship between television and its audience. Horror can be a good method of exploring the human condition.

I do get what you mean in your second paragraph. I can appreciate that good horror films are an art, even if I don't enjoy watching them personally. And some movies that are just plain good movies simply happen to be scary - some of those I can manage, if the plot is engaging enough and not the simple formula of a group of people getting picked off one by one in horrible ways.

I haven't watched much horror, but I think about this sometimes. I think that really good horror (i.e. horror that is complex, smart, and horrifying) is incredibly difficult to create, and I'm always extremely impressed when someone manages to do it. In fact, it's almost like there's a magic too it, since horrifying (or deeply disturbing) someone is a very strong and also difficult effect to evoke in most people.

I watch horror movies because they never scare me. I'm constantly looking for something that might actually do it for me, but it's rarer than anything.

These days I mostly enjoy horror for the specific brand of cheese and silly violence/gore that comes with it. Occasionally I like it for the interesting concepts that come out of it when film makers and script writers get particularly creative with a project and start flipping the tables as to who turns out to be the protagonist.

I also like them because it's a really easy genre for independent film makers to excel at without much of a budget. Most of the really interesting horror is by indie directors just trying out a pet script.

I'm not a fan of sports, either. I don't find them interesting to watch, and I'm not wild about playing them, either, unless it's, like, a quick game with a few friends. And even then, I'm just not a huge outdoor activity person in general, and I suck at playing sports in general, so it just seems pointless for me to get involved as a result.

I think a lot of the culture around sports turns me off, too, in terms of just even possibly trying to enjoy watching them or being a fan. People rioting and breaking things whether their team wins or loses, small towns taking sports WAY too seriously to the point where they act like it's the end of the world if their team loses a game, parents putting ridiculous pressure on their kids at a freaking Little League or T-ball game, and so on and so forth...it just puts me off so much and sucks all the fun and enjoyment out of the sport in question. I just keep wanting to tell all those people: It's a game. Chill.

sports bore me too. I was born into a family of jocks and they all think I'm a damn weirdo.
