It's possible, but it's not easy. There's not a lot of growth in the field, and the bulk of it's in the (pretty competitive and horribly undervalued) freelance market. If you have contacts into the field, it will make it much easier to make the jump. Publishing is an incestuous clusterfuck of a professional pool on nearly every level.
