People say this all the time like is a huge thing lots of people do. But how many people really cope with a traumatic event by FETISHIZING that event?

na

idk, I have friend who is a rape survivor and has engaged in real life rape roleplay as a coping mechanism. I doubt it's super common but I also kind of doubt that it's super uncommon either. Things that would seem horrifying to other survivors might seem empowering to others. Different people just work in different ways

Actually that is the Very Dynamic that make victims of violence in turn be become abusors, and a human Tendency that produces Stuff like a culture of war that Initiates young Boys into the ways of war. Victims often cope by romanticizing, trivializing, fetishizing.

It's not that far a step. Think about nightmares for instance. If you're afraid of something or have experienced something terrifying, it's a good chance that you will dream about that scenario in some way. It's your body and brain's way to have a fire drill: to prepare you for the worst and give you coping strategies where the unprepared you would freeze in place.
