No joke, I once saw a serious post circulating about how we need to stop calling people "people" and that we should start calling them "folks" or "beings" because not everyone identified as human lol.

The stupidest thing about that is "people" doesn't necessarily have to mean human. Anyone who reads or watches science fiction media knows that aliens are people too!

Heck, in "Under the skin" ( book), the aliens referred to themselves as "human", which made the first chapter somewhat confusing.

I know I read a book somewhere that may or may not have been Terry Pratchett, where one of the themes was that every race/species calls themselves "Human" or "People" in their own language.

I encountered one in a usually sensible feminist forum who told me in all seriousness that science would vindicate them one day, just like it did with transgender people. (How do you KNOW it won't? they said!) They told me that my attitude would be one that people would look back on as being the sad bigotry of the past. Ew no fuck off.
