It's for misogynists and men who can't measure up as men, but are too cowardly to be gay.

Being gay isn't a choice, fyi. Stop enforcing harmful stereotypes.

Calm down, you two. It's obvious AYRT was using "be gay" as shorthand for "come out as gay."

I see you haven't heard of lesbian separatists.

Nope, lesbian separatists aren't lesbians, however much they want to be.

Dunno, they might not be attracted to women, but they face all the consequences of being a lesbian and are viewed as a lesbian by most of society. Internally, no they're not lesbians, but externally it's no different.

lmao are you serious

being a lesbian IS being attracted to women. And pretending and "facing the consequences" means jack shit. I could cover myself in dog shit and walk around town making a stir but that doesn't magically make me a victim just because people give me external consequences.

signed, a real lesbian (who, by the way, likes men perfectly fine)

I go with self-identifiers, so if someone insists they're a lesbian, and they don't appear to be the opposite for lulz, I'll take them at face value. Whether they're questioning, going through a political stage, whatever.

Sexual identities in practice, and particularly "lesbian", are cultural labels as much as sexuality ones, I've found.

In my personal experience, many political lesbians are going through a stage, and come out the other end as bi or straight. But it's pretty insulting to say that a type of self-identified lesbian isn't an actual lesbian. And there are LOTS of sexually lesbian political lesbians - it's a nice convenient worldview to fit your pre-existing sexuality.
