I was raised ID but also loved sci fi.

You should watch Expelled, which is fascinating and shows not just idiots believe in ID, as you seem to think.

It's very common to think anyone who disagrees with you is stupid and "how can they think that?" but it doesn't actually help you understand them or the other side of what you think.

I suggest either do some research into why some people believe in ID, or just let it go and continue believing it's all idiots, all the time.

Isn't that the doc that claims the theory of evolution caused the Holocaust?

Never heard of this doctor, but probably because of eugenics/social Darwinism, which applied the theory of evolution to the idea of breeding "better" humans. Darwin himself didn't subscribe to this. Hitler drew on eugenics to justify scapegoating of despised minorities and genocide.

But to make the inference that evolution = Holocaust is pernicious and disingenuous.

I mean, the discovery of the theory of evolution was partly aided by observing the theory of economic rationalism/capitalism. Do we want to say that capitalism = Holocaust? Do we? Well, inasofar as these are social policies/justifications, rather than a value-free scientific theory about how life came to be, they might have a closer association! Economic rationalism put the poor in workhouses and tried to prevent them from breeding!

No, it's not just idiots who believe in ID. Sadly, a lot of perfectly smart people believe in utterly idiotic things.

Yeah. "Only dumb people think differently from me" is an easy and satisfying belief, but it's not true. Cognitive dissonance (the ability to hold wildly contradictory beliefs in one mind) is something we are all prone to, and can afflict the most brilliant minds.

Ben Carson knows a lot about the human brain and neurosurgery, and not a whole hell of a lot else it seems.

Always struck me as weird that a guy who grew up in Detroit would be a Tea Party darling.

nayrt but I know why people believe in ID, and their reasoning is non scientific and highly flawed. So believing that it's idiotic and only idiots would believe in ID doesn't seem very unreasonable to me. I'll note that it's entirely possible to believe that God created the world as part of your religion without using dodgy science and archaeology to support that theory. I find that far more sensible.

Anon, gotta say that your argument for ID =/= idiocy is looking pretty weaksauce given the comments that expose the skeeviness of that documentary.
