Re: ITT: pigheaded Christians, and equally pigheaded culturally-Christian atheists.
(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)Also, Christmas is celebrated worldwide by non-Christian countries too, such as Japan. And if you celebrate Christmas and Easter in a totally secular context (which is how I was raised), how are they remotely Christian? I mean you could say everyone in most white, western countries is culturally Christian.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)Thanksgiving, started as a day to thank God and each other for the Pilgrim's surviving. Based on harvest festivals, but still, essentially a Christian based holiday, even though it has largely become secularised as well.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-26 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)Thanksgiving was a day to give thanks, yes, but has never been inherently religious. It's about being thankful. Many other countries have similar Thanksgiving type holidays. It is NOT a Christian based holiday. As you said, it's closer to a harvest holiday than anything.
