The origin of Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth. Granted, it's been hijacked by elves and Santa Claus, but that's the way of things, isn't it.

Thanksgiving, started as a day to thank God and each other for the Pilgrim's surviving. Based on harvest festivals, but still, essentially a Christian based holiday, even though it has largely become secularised as well.

Uhh, winter solstice holidays long predate any Christian celebration. Since I celebrate Christmas without any Christ whatsoever, my holiday is closer to pagan than it is Christian.

Thanksgiving was a day to give thanks, yes, but has never been inherently religious. It's about being thankful. Many other countries have similar Thanksgiving type holidays. It is NOT a Christian based holiday. As you said, it's closer to a harvest holiday than anything.
