It does kind of seem like they haven't moved past the stage where they're showing off how realistic their shiny new technology can look, even though it's been a while by now. Hopefully people will experiment with different styles more as time goes on.

Yeah. I mean think about all the little details, like how in Mulan the smoke curled like in traditional Chinese ink paintings, or the way Hercules looked. Those had so much style.
All the 3D movies, however, kind of have the same general look about them in terms of environments. I feel like you could mash a lot of them together, or transplant the characters from one to another, with hardly a sense of dissonance.
Time for more experimentation for sure.
