How do you ship?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-27 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Do you go by canon or non-canon? Do you come to a pairing through simple logic ( i.e not jumping through hoops to get there), or do you simply ship by preference?

Sometimes I'm lucky enough to ship the camon pair, but most times it is purely preference, meaning that I feel like I'm always in the rare pair side of things. If that pairing looks plausible despite this, that's a welcome bonus.

OP

*canon

Uurgh, typos are so tiresome...

I dunno. It's characters that I really like and who have really strong, good, interesting relationships with each other. I can't say much more than that. It's rarely if ever going to be totally random but it's also not always going to be canon.

I pick a character and ship them WITH ALL THE THINGS!

All the moresome. ALL OF THEM! I am reading one right now.

That's me as well. When it comes to shipping if so-and-so is there then I'm usually about halfway sold on the pairing already. I am guilty of mostly shipping popular non-canon ships though.

For me it's whatever dynamic appeals to me in a shippy way, so I've had both canon and non-canon pairs appeal to me because of this. Though if I'm to attribute a pattern to my shipping it's typically my favourite character paired with another(often my second fave but thats not always the case).

That last bit is so me. Also, my favorites are often secondary or the least popular of the main ones, so it's mainly rare pairs for me if my type isn't the main character with a canon relationship that ticks my boxes.

My faves are a medley so I do often get lucky enough to have my fave be the main and then I usually don't have too much trouble finding fic for my ship if I have one(though this does depend on the fandom size/type).

I go by which characters have the most chemistry, which ones I can believe being together. I also like to occasionally imagine which characters I could see coming home to each other at the end of the day, if I'm thinking in terms of a long-term relationship sort of deal.

And I also like ships that start off with the characters being close friends, to where the idea of them possibly someday becoming a couple would feel natural. And yes, once I have a favorite character, I also occasionally like to try out a few different pairings with them just for the heck of it, see which ones I could see being long-term and which ones would be brief flings :D.

Sometimes all of that happens with a canon pairing, and sometimes it doesn't. I think more often than not a lot of my favorite pairings wind up being non-canon ones, but if I love the interaction and relationship and history between a canon couple, I'll happily ship them, too :).

i ship characters who have interesting relationships/chemistry. i especially like when they don't always get along but still have each other's backs and care about each other.

i think all my ships have been non-canon.

my ships are all over the place. canon, non-canon, fluffy, angsty, friends, enemies, rivals, young love, old love, m/m, m/f, f/f, etc

honestly i couldn't begin to describe what it is that makes a pairing work for me.

I mostly end up shipping non-canon, mainly because I frequently ship slash and I've not been in many fandoms with canon gay pairings, and a couple I have the canon pairings don't appeal to me.

But I feel it is mostly about two characters I like and also think might work together. A lot of the time that ends up being the fandom favourite, so I guess I frequently have mainstream tastes there.

I also do get influenced by fic. If I find a really good fic that writes a pairing (that I don't already hate) well, it might result in me shipping them. The irony of that is my current OTP was the result of that, and the fic was gen. It was a very well-written friendship though.

it's all chemistry.
