I would agree with that. People aren't all good or all bad. If someone has some bad belief, it doesn't negate the good beliefs and ideas they might have to share. It's a mark of maturity to be able to tolerate beliefs and ideas that contradict your own.

I think in some cases people are also talking about authors who have done despicable things - the MZB fiasco comes to mind. Where it's not so much that the gross stuff comes out in the writing, necessarily... but.
