I kind of feel like, as long as you acknowledge that the creator was a terrible person and you are able to recognize and disapprove of any of their terribleness that shows up in their work, then it's a ton more okay to be a fan of their work. On the other hand, if you actively deny that they were a terrible person, or that the terrible things they did were terrible, and you make a big whiny fuss about how persecuted you are when people mention the terribleness of the creator, then you're just acting like a great big bag of dicks and it makes total sense to see your tastes as reflective of who you are personally.
