Hitchhiker's Guide of the Galaxy

Douglas Adam's writing in general, really. I was a very big fan of his writing all through my teenage years. Then I re-read one of his books when I was 20+ and I found it was not as good as I remembered. Too silly/random and not as insightful as I remembered it.

There are some childhood books I never want to reread because of that. Like Amy Tan's novels.

yeaaaah... it seemed really innovative at first. Silly and random with surprising meaning, you know?

When I read it as a younger teen, it seemed to hint at insights and references I couldn't yet understand with my life experience. On a reread the characters are flat and the whole world is kinda sexist in a boring way.

I still love the descriptions of alien life though. He was pretty good at describing wacky "ecosystems".

This is one of those things I wish I'd read as a kid. Because I tried reading it as an adult and it just didn't work for me. So I always feel left out when people are talking about Hitchhiker's. I haven't read past the first book.
