League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

I just watched this, and I had fun with it. I liked Sawyer and Quartermain's relationship best, and now I'm tempted to read King Solomon's Mines and She. What do you guys think of the movies? Ever read Quartermain's books?

My biggest problem with the movie was that they changed the main character. In the comics, Mina is the leader, not Quartermain. I couldn't get past that in the movie. And Sawyer isn't in the comics at all.

I actually remember eenjoying King Solomon's Mines when I watched it.

Sounds like I'm in the best spot then since I haven't read the comics so I can see the movie as it is and then enjoy female-led team-up in the comics if I ever get to them. (Are they good? Is it ongoing or a shorter series?)

I think I'd only want to read the books since it's not usually a subject matter I'd be interested in. But the books are free online so I might check them out.

I haven't seen the movie, and I've only read one of the comics. The comics are pretty misanthropic, I think, and I suppose not very like the movie.

You may as well just read the source materials both draw from.

I quite enjoyed it as well. It's not exactly great, and you have to pretend that the comic doesn't exist, but it's a lot of fun. My favourite relationship was Nemo & Jekyll/Hyde, to the point that I sort of ship them a bit.

I liked them too! The CGI is a little wonky for Hyde but given the age of the film, that's easily ignored. I did like how graphic and harsh the transformations were. I really liked the look of the submarine.

Never read them, but I saw the Hammer Studios' version of She, which is how I learned Peter Cushing looks good with a beard.

I thought LXG was fun, although the submarine that is HUGE and ten can fit in a Venice canal was too much.

Lol, I thought the same thing too. That, and Venice sure is a light city that it can float over such large underwater caverns. It was like nothing was holding it up.
