mine does trick-or-treating tonight and has the halloween parade tommorrow

in other parts of the metro, kids have to tell jokes to get candy

Minimal/nothing lol. But my pet store has giant spiders and skulls hudden everywhere which scared the shit out of me then quickly became hilarious.

I think they just do the "go to this school or church and get candy" thing to keep kids out of danger, but IDK, I haven't trick or treated in ages. Does anywhere still have kids going door-to-door?

Something about seeing "Halloween " and "alive" in the same sentence made me laugh because I was thinking of skeletons and ghosts and zombies. :)

Most places, as far as I know? I haven't even heard of any threat to trick-or-treating here, it's a very popular holiday.

Nothing really. It's a shame, there is this currently disused church in the town centre, if it wasn't next to a retirement home it would be a perfect scare maze location.

I used to live in an area so rural it was a five to ten minute walk between some houses, so the Halloween thing was held in the local fire hall. It was pretty cool, but it was much preferred to just drive to the nearest populous area to do real trick or treating.

I wouldn't say it's "weird", really, since I think other towns do similar things, but one town I lived in did haunted hayrides every year. There were some guys with chainsaws who ran up to the cart my family and I were on one year and they scared the shit out of me.

(And yet when I got home that night, for whatever reason, I decided on watching 'Halloween' for the first time. Not a wise decision on my part :p.)

Midwesterner here, and there are always corn mazes and such. I volunteered one year to wear a mask and scare people... the only one I scared was a little boy, who started crying, and I felt bad and took off my mask to tell him I wasn't really a monster. But I was, OP. I was the monster.

Not my town, and this is actually tangentially fandom related, but recently I was being a total fangirl for a show I don't even watch anymore, and visiting Steveston, a town outside Vancouver where they film parts of Once Upon a Time. And I guess the small businesses there do a trick-or-treat thing. I couldn't figure out what all the halloween scarecrows and weird voodoo doll things (there was a stuffed suit outside the bank with pictures of Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold/Robert Carlyle collaged all over the neck stump/vestigial head, it was creepy as fuck and I'm a Rumple fangirl) and a Cousin It and witches and vampires posed outside all the shops were. They were everywhere and all of them were life size or pretty close. It was cool but also weird until I realized every shop with a creepy mannequin or dummy or whatever out front was participating in the neighborhood trick-or-treat thing, so that was pretty cool.
