People have made this comparison many times before and it turns out that a fair number of people actually do find Buffy and Angel's relationship to be creepy. Just not as creepy as Bella and Edward's. I think the fact that the relationship between Buffy and Angel is actually acknowledged at several points as being kind of messed up and not entirely healthy at times helps. It also doesn't hurt that Buffy is more than capable of defending herself (and even defending Angel when necessary) and isn't constantly placed in a very vulnerable, helpless position like Bella is which makes the power imbalance between her and Edward extremely pronounced.

I kind of don't blame Buffy so much for the relationship, because she's a young teenager who's all caught up in the drama of her older mysterious boyfriend. But Angel? Yeah, it does seem REALLY skeevy.

I actually prefer Angel in his own series, because he actually grows a real personality and isn't just brooding-handsome-Tiger-Beat-boy.

Yeah. Like, the relationship is pretty clearly meant to be, you know, a teenage girl making a romantic decision that - seen from the light of adulthood - is a mistake. The end of season 2 is about how that kind of relationship can turn bad. It's not like this is hidden under the surface - I'm honestly not sure how you could read it any other way. Of course people have their opinions about it like they do about Wuthering Heights, or whatever, but that's what it is.
