(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)On the other hand, it was rather hilarious to me to see the number of Ichabbie shippers hurl misogyny at Katrina for getting in the way of their ship when I had seen many of those same shippers accuse slash fans of misogyny in other fandoms.
Goes to show that "social justice" only matters when it's on your side.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)Same. Some people just did. not. like. her. period. At all. I personally did-I do wish the show could've done more with her character*, but I still liked her and found the bits we did know about her to be interesting. Plus, I tend to feel a little sympathetic towards characters that get dumped on so much in a fandom :p.
*(I did find it amusing, though, that fans complained over and over again about how blah Katrina's characterization was, but if the show did dare to try and expand on or explore her character further, those same people turned around and griped that she got all the screen time.
I understand, of course, that they wanted Abbie to get her well-deserved time in the spotlight since, y'know, she IS one of the main characters, and that's logical. But if you don't want a character you don't like getting screen time, then don't whine about the lack of proper character development they get as a result.)
As for the misogyny comments, that reminds me of something that I've noticed in fandom in general that I tend to be really baffled by: I hear fans talk all the time about the problem shows have with "fridging" female characters. They go on and on about how they're tired of female characters dying for "man pain" and how their deaths rob them of the chance at any interesting story and character development and so on. I'm totally on board with them on that sentiment.
But then I find that some of the same fans who complain about that practice are the ones who then turn around and go on and on about how they want a female character they can't stand-Katrina, in this case, or Laurel from "Arrow", to name but a couple notable ones-to be killed off. And at that point, I'm sitting here going, "So...what exactly is the difference between what you're suggesting and show writers choosing to kill female characters?"
(It especially struck me odd that fans wanted Katrina dead in part to help put an end to the "Crane Family Drama" and angst they'd grown so tired of. Because Ichabod's wife dying wouldn't add to his drama and angst, I guess? I never did understand that thinking.)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)Anyway, you're wrong in your assumption. I friendship Abbie and Ichabod. I think they are the most adorable besties on screen ever with the nosy advice they give each other (and accept) and I want to squoodge them in the biggest sister/brother hug, but they don't have sexual chemistry, at least not yet. If the actors start interjecting it, maybe. They are excellent actors. But right now, they are just friends and I love them as such.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)I only see Ichabod & Abbie as friends & I hope they remain just friends.

I was pretty upset when Grimm looked like it was doing essentially the same thing, too, and didn't even finish the season, but Sleepy Hollow I'll eventually catch up with the new season on.
I'm just not into this 'let's make the love interest evil' thing-- apparently it's something redheaded women are prone to on supernatural shows I watch, but it's just not interesting to me, it's like TV writers don't know how to write an interesting plot if there's a couple that's happy or at least committed to working through their issues...

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)This is how I feel, too. I personally wouldn't have minded the idea of Katrina being dark/ambiguous/evil...if I knew her being dark and evil wouldn't lead to the very trope you mention playing out. It just seems a lazy way to get rid of the person standing in the way of the couple-to-be.
Considering supernatural-themed shows can be so imaginative, and especially considering "Sleepy Hollow" proved in the first season how creative and original they could be with the genre and formula, there's got to be more creative and original ways they could let Katrina go or end things with her and Ichabod than defaulting to the usual "kill her off/make her evil" mode.

I think Abbie and Ichabod make the very best of friends and partners and I just hope hope hope they never have an intimate relationship. (I also love that Jenny is now part of the regular cast and we get to see her use her years of experience as Corbin's assistant and just basically be bad-ass all over the place. Corbin's son, though, needs to take a chill.)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)Some of the people crowing about her death are raging Ichabod/Irving or Ichabod/Abraham shippers. Presumably there are a few Ichabod/Hawley shippers too, though most of the ones I've met in the wild are pretty low key.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-01 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)If you're looking for fic, it's pretty sparse across the board, though. Ichabod/Abbie really is the juggernaut ship.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-02 01:18 am (UTC)(link)Jeremy/Abraham? I shouldn't be surprised, and yet...:p. Ichabod/Hawley could be fun to play with, given Hawley's propensity to irritate the crap out of Ichabod :D.

Mostly, I just found her boring as hell and badly written. Plus...as nice as the actress is....she was not very good.
Still need to watch this seasons episodes though. I've been very lax on watching ANYTHING so far this year (MLP, Sleepy Hollow, Sailor Moon Crystal, etc...stupid SWTOR just upped an grabbed my everything)
