I was so disappointed with how she was handled in S2 after I'd actually really liked her when she was introduced... and honestly, I'm happier having her GONE than suffering through DARK KATRINA, which I have no interest in, but it's not my first choice for her.

I was pretty upset when Grimm looked like it was doing essentially the same thing, too, and didn't even finish the season, but Sleepy Hollow I'll eventually catch up with the new season on.

I'm just not into this 'let's make the love interest evil' thing-- apparently it's something redheaded women are prone to on supernatural shows I watch, but it's just not interesting to me, it's like TV writers don't know how to write an interesting plot if there's a couple that's happy or at least committed to working through their issues...

This is how I feel, too. I personally wouldn't have minded the idea of Katrina being dark/ambiguous/evil...if I knew her being dark and evil wouldn't lead to the very trope you mention playing out. It just seems a lazy way to get rid of the person standing in the way of the couple-to-be.

Considering supernatural-themed shows can be so imaginative, and especially considering "Sleepy Hollow" proved in the first season how creative and original they could be with the genre and formula, there's got to be more creative and original ways they could let Katrina go or end things with her and Ichabod than defaulting to the usual "kill her off/make her evil" mode.

I didn't like the whole EVIL KATRINA thing either. If the show makers wanted to off the characters, why couldn't they have given her a heroic death?

This. Why couldn't she have perhaps died to fully cement Ichabod and his son's relationship more? I would not have objected to seeing Jeremy/Henry more, and Katrina acting as a sort of impetus to make things just a tad more difficult for both sides of the war again.

Then again, I love John Noble so...

That would have been so much better, yeah. Like, I might have felt more sad over her dying, but I would have been happier in how her character was handled.
