I get that. QI works best if the host plays the at being stuffy or serious sometimes. Sue can do that, but she really shines when being more carefree.

I'm just glad its a queer woman thats ousted fry.

And what's Sue? Chopped liver? Sue is as gay as a pride parade. She just doesn't feel the need to shout it from the roof tops.

nayrt - The magnitude of one's queerness isn't a contest, surely?

Here's a fun activity: look up the word "oust" and its definition. Then you can sound less stupid in the future!

Watch what you say about my BBF Sue. Sue trumps all and would be marvelous as a host. All Hail Hypno-Sue!

I don't think that's an entirely accurate assessment. Sue was an excellent, grounded host on HIGNFY and her travelogues. I'm pleased Sandi got the QI gig, but I'm sure Sue would have been a good choice too. Sue just seems more immature on GBBO because it's a much more light-hearted show.

This may be a controversial opinion, but... while I like Sue Perkins and all, her recent travel documentaries through Asia caused me no end of secondhand embarrassment. It was all very LOOK AT ME THE GOOFY LOUD WHITE LADY BEING ALL CLUELESS AND INCOMPETENT! They had some really nice moments in there as well, it's just that there were quite a lot of cringey bits. Then again, I'm Asian and maybe my perspective is different.

I didn't see her episodes on HIGNFY, but that show tends to be more tightly scripted. QI requires more improv and off the cuff moderation of the guests and it's done in a style different than Perkins' approach to comedy.

It's not just you being Asian. I'm white British and I found Paul Merton's similar gig in China a few years back similarly cringeworthy. What's wrong with a Chinese celeb fronting?

I have a feeling that the people who make such shows enjoy seeing the whole "fish out of water" effect of culture shock with a white British person in Asia. I don't mind seeing someone experience a new culture and country for the first time, but when they make an unnecessary spectacle of themselves I feel really weird about it. Like oh, my culture is sooooooo weird and exotic that white people can't navigate it, blah blah blah...

I'm fine with QI keeping Alan Davies on, but I feel like it might have been a nice choice to have replaced Stephen/Alan with Sandi/Sue. That might have worked.

Oh wow, that would be awesome.
