I think people who say a word has lost it's meaning are a bit narrow minded. It hasn't lost it's meaning, it has just gained multiple meanings. There are quite a lot of official words in the English language that have multiple meanings, I don't see why fandom terms must have only one.

Well if you're talking about regular words and not just fandom words, there are meanings that have fallen out of use so long ago that most people don't know them, so essentially are "lost". In fandom terms I think it's more "I see the phrase 'this is so important you guys' so often that it no longer registers for me."

Maybe the real issue is that "This word has no meaning" is a shorthand comment that has become too common and people just don't specify the "to me" part of the sentiment.

Or maybe I just haven't suffered the over-exposure other people have had to certain phrases.
