What "low-brow" or mass-appeal media that is generally looked down upon do you like?

Re: Inspired by #8

(Anonymous) 2015-11-06 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Lots.

I don't agree with the framing of low-brown to start with, honestly. It's stupid-ass.

Terrible, terrible horror films. The lower the budget the better.

Reality shows. The more drama the better.

SITCOMS!

Yup.

Although I am not going back to Mom. Nope.

Same here, I love sitcoms.

So many films. I really enjoyed LXG, Doom, Dawn Treader, Priest, Legion, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch of others. I'm happy with cheap thrills and fan service too. As long as I find the characters, world, or story interesting, I can forgive the execution.

I don't know if it's "mass appeal" but it's a big industry: yaoi. I love it and all its terrible cliches, I don't even care.

-"Criminal Minds".

-Sitcoms that have laugh tracks (I tend to roll my eyes a little at people who are all, "I don't need to be told when to laugh" in regards to those. Yes, because they're clearly holding a gun to your head and making you laugh when they do.)

-Top 40 pop music.

Think those are the big ones.

Beavis and Butthead!

I turned my nose up at it as a kid because my mother was always like "GIRLS DON'T LIKE GROSS STUPID THINGS" but I liked it and it was something that me, my dad, and my brother all liked to laugh at together, so eventually I gave up "girls don't like gross or stupid things" and just embraced enjoying stupid gross shit.

I still adore Beavis and Butthead Do America. That's a funny movie.

Any Vin Diesel film that's not Fast and Furious. (Which isn't a knock, I simply haven't gotten to them.) I genuinely kinda liked The Last Witch Hunter.

Action flicks in general. Spent last night rewatching Predator 2. Will probably pull out Predators again tomorrow.

Mainstream comic books. Yeah, I have a healthy dose of the more acclaimed series in my box, too, but god damn it I will read Secret Wars too.

Family Guy

I mean I won't fight to the death over it and it's not even in my top ten of favorite things to watch, but I like it.

court TV shows and trash like Dr Phil

I don't know that I'd say I "like" them, but I like having background noise while I work and those are the shows that require me to think to the least

The first two Twilight movies, and, to a lesser extent, the first two Twilight books.

For music, Taylor Swift. Though I'm at the point where I will actively defend her music against haters. It started off as a guilty pleasure, but the more of her stuff I listened to the more I realized how much genuine skill she has for song writing. Yes, her stuff has a fairly narrow thematic niche (contemplative, picturesque romance), but damn if she doesn't write the hell out of that niche.
