Only children are spoiled and/or weird.

I lost so much respect for a friend when she said she didn't want kids at all, but if she did end up with one by mistake, she'd have another on purpose so that her first kid wouldn't grow up spoiled.

Whoops, turns out she didn't know I was an only child and a mistake-baby, whose parents later on honestly wanted to have a second kid but couldn't.

That's such a mean thing to say. Personally if I have kids I would have at least two because all the only children I've ever known were hella lonely growing up and because I always loved having siblings, but being spoiled depends on the parents' parenting decisions, not on how many kids are in the family.

you may very well be just giving the first kid somebody to fight with....

That is a crap thing to say. Wow. Way to put your foot in your mouth there, lady.

I'd also point out the fact that a lot of times, I've noticed it's the second, or youngest, whichever, child that often winds up being the most spoiled, 'cause they're the "baby" of the family and all...but yeah. Obviously that's not the case in EVERY family, of course, but that's generally been my experience with the families I've seen that have multiple children.

I have seen one example where it seemed true, but I have also seen examples of where it was not. I really think it's a case-by-case matter.

My niece is an only child and she is not spoiled or weird.
