What are some common criticisms/arguments that piss you off? Can be about anything - religion, life choices, hobbies, etc. The stupider the better, as long as they are something common.

You shouldn't blame characters for their actions, you should blame the writers. This goes double when people complain about what a female character wears. "She can't feel empowered by it, because she's not real! You have to consider that a man wrote her to be wearing that!"

No. No, I don't. The meta lens is not one I am obligated to look through when taking in media.

I don't like the argument that you can't pick and choose what to follow from Leviticus, because it's typically phrased as if the arguer has never heard any of the justifications for why you should pick and choose from Leviticus. I think all that stuff about the three kinds of laws in Leviticus is bullshit, but you need to at least respond to it if you want to convince someone who doesn't already agree with you.

Also, I hate most forms of the argument "You shouldn't care what I do to my kids! They're not yours!" The one that pisses me off the most is the anti-vaxxer formulation, since you can always tell they've never heard of herd immunity.

Like sure, I'm wiling to concede you have life experience on things involving babies and kids.

But, that doesn't mean you're also a scientist/psychologist/teacher etc. Fact is, you might have offspring but know jack shit about some issues involving kids.

Especially if you use that to back up idiotic arguments like being anti-vaccine, or pretend you're the damn expert on autism.

Ditto if you use being a parent as a shield for being a homophobe or whatever else you're using your kids as a shield for. If you can't explain to lil' Timmy that sometimes two girls or boys fall in love with each other, the problem is with you, not your kid or the world.

I realize I'm preaching to the choir here, but people defending offensive shit with "freedom of speech". Like hey, I don't want to BAN racist Halloween costumes or misogynistic jokes. But I will shit all over them, and loudly. (and possibly literally in the case of the Halloween costume). And guess what, I have the freedom of speech to do that, too!

"Trigger warnings are pointless because if you have a trigger you should get therapy."

Some people literally can't access a therapist to save their lives, some people are getting therapy as you speak your argument but it doesn't cure things overnight, and trigger warnings are actually a type of therapy themselves. If you're warned that a trigger is coming, you can prepare yourself for it until you're no longer triggered by it. Meanwhile, putting a trigger warning on something costs you nothing.

Non-Muslim woman: complains about any kind of sexism.

Non-muslim man: "Hey, you want to see REAL sexism??? Look at how Muslim women are treated! *posts pictures of women who had acid thrown on them* But all you care about is [whatever she was complaining about], you selfish, spoiled brat! Why don't you talk about Muslim women instead???"

Uh, maybe because Muslim women can speak for themselves and don't need to be spoken for?

And the existence of worse problems elsewhere does not remove the problems a person is dealing with when and where they happen to be.

And those guys don't give two flying fucks about Muslim women when they don't need to invoke them to shut some other woman up. How about stop treating certain groups of people like they only exist to be a rhetorical device?

Whenever someone dies during a dangerous religious ritual, the others always shrug it off because God could just as easily "call them home" while they're crossing the street and a truck barrels through. It seems like the assumption is that you'll die exactly when God wants you to die, which makes me worry what they think of terminally ill folks. "Sorry, Billy, but you'll never reach adulthood because God wants you to die young!"

Global warming isn't a thing because I'm cold.

Or more recently, my Republican facebook friends have been freaking out about that NASA research about Antartica gaining ice, and arguing that it's proof that global warming doesn't exist. Like, suddenly now they care what scientists have to say.

Any argument that says one type of discrimination is more important or worse than another. I tend to see this with classism being called worse than everything or racism being called worse than sexism (or occasionally vice versa).

No. It isn't a competition. They are all bad in different ways and all connect in different ways. Lets stop fighting over who has it worse and focus on fighting all of them.

When people keep saying stupid shit and making wild claims/fake facts/poorly remembered word of mouth fact then get upset with you for not taking them seriously. Arguments where you're expected to waste time following their ridiculous mental gymnastics or moving goal posts.

Any argument that isn't really an argument and is just basically "this is right or wrong just because. You have to accept what I say, but I'm not going to give an actual rational argument for why you should."

Also any argument that boils down to "because this particular religious text says so" without taking into account the fact that there are different interpretations to every religious text and not everyone subscribes to that text. And I say this as a religious person.

"You're just jealous." Because that is the only possible reason why you could have an opposing viewpoint.

Also, not sure if this one is lobbed at men, or predominantly towards women. But it irks me on a grand scale.
