Re: Arguments or criticisms you hate
(Anonymous) 2015-11-06 01:13 am (UTC)(link)I care about the in-universe logic. And that's not wrong, and people should be able to talk about that without people butting in to castigate the writers or be insulting to people who don't watch the same way they do.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-06 02:30 am (UTC)(link)But I've also played games where the story IS really compelling. And I've watched shows and movies that were really compelling but then the characters behave in deeply stupid ways. And that's irritate -- and sometimes it does turn me off of the media -- but it's because I don't like what the character is doing, not because I have any preconcieved notions about the writers and their motivations or because I've refused to look beyond my own feelings to consider if there's a reason a character would do something other than "writers who are just exploiting women!"
And that, I guess, is what's at the heart of my complaint. People who look for the worst interpretations of something, refuse any others and blame it all on the "bad writers" who don't do what those people want. When really, it's just something you don't like.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-06 02:18 am (UTC)(link)OK, I was rereading and realized that two comments ago I said I care about the real people fictional people represent and then in the next comment I said I didn't, and that's pretty contradictory and confusing.
I guess what I mean is that the real-world takeaways aren't WHY I watch a show at all. But that I *can* see them in what's happening onscreen keeps me from losing my shit because men wrote that when they could have written it another way. Because anybody who writs anything could have done it another way, and what matters is "does this way seem real? Is there something IRL that makes me say "yeah, that could happen."
If yes, I've got no moral beef with the writers.
