Non-Muslim woman: complains about any kind of sexism.

Non-muslim man: "Hey, you want to see REAL sexism??? Look at how Muslim women are treated! *posts pictures of women who had acid thrown on them* But all you care about is [whatever she was complaining about], you selfish, spoiled brat! Why don't you talk about Muslim women instead???"

Uh, maybe because Muslim women can speak for themselves and don't need to be spoken for?

And the existence of worse problems elsewhere does not remove the problems a person is dealing with when and where they happen to be.

And those guys don't give two flying fucks about Muslim women when they don't need to invoke them to shut some other woman up. How about stop treating certain groups of people like they only exist to be a rhetorical device?

Someone else: "but how come you're not going to talk about women being murdered by abusive partners in America? I see through your so-called feminism, Western imperialist Islamophobe..."

Maybe they didn't talk about violence against women in America because it wasn't relevant to the conversation? A lack of mention isn't a denial. Jesus.

I think a lot of the time, what those people and the people in the original comment are really pissed about is the fact that someone is talking about women's issues at all

That is different, though? I generally think people's focus should be on sexism in their own culture and supporting the voices of women who want to criticize the culture the woman is from. Focusing on criticizing another culture often ends up being pretty racist.

But it's usually not a criticism out of nowhere or a way of criticizing Islam. Sometimes it's not even a criticism, it's just a statement of fact. The example I can think of is someone who wrote a letter to a newspaper in response to an article that was specifically about honor killings. One article, just saying that they happen, probably mentioning real cases that happened recently. Why should we pretend they don't happen just because similar things happen in this country? It's not as if there have never been articles in our news about women's issues here.

Good point. I've just seen a lot of "lets talk about these problems for Muslim women without listening to Muslim women talk about their experience and use it as an excuse to be Islamophobic." And that I don't agree with.
