uhh, if you say something negative or critical about something and people respond with "well just don't watch it/read it/scroll past it." okay, but in turn, if what I'm saying bothers you then you can just do the same?? I have something I want to say, dang.

This. It's especially true, here. Like, I'm at f!s basically to share my opinions about fandom shit. If I don't like a show and criticize it, don't get defensive and just say "well don't watch it then!"

"Don't like don't read" is one of the most misapplied and abused phrases ever. That is a stupid application of it.

It has a specific situation when it's right and that's when someone goes into something warned that it has something you hate and you probably won't like it and you come out bitching that it had the thing you don't like. Or when someone's complaining "this thing shouldn't be on the internet because I hate it rawr"

But if someone has a good reason to criticize something that isn't just "it's X thing I hate" then it's fucking stupid to just tell them they shouldn't look at it. If they can share an opinion on it, even if that opinion isn't 100% glowing positive than why not?
