Things you don't want to say elsewhere

think of it like twitter, but with more characters and anonymity

I feel like an embarrassment and just want to fade away. I know I'm not trying hard enough and any skills I have aren't marketable. I hate it. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

*fistbump of solidarity* Housewife, no real resume, no references = shitty employment opportunities.

+1 Same.

All I really have is my writing. If I lose that, I lose the feeling that I can contribute to anything.

Same, except I'm not a housewife. :(

Not true.

You know what you have that A LOT of people in your situation don't?

Self-awareness.

You're aware that the job market is competitive and that employers are looking for certain skill sets. A lot of employers will respond to that, especially people who can clearly articulate how they're dedicated to filling an employer's needs. Because very often, no ideal candidate exists and there's always going to be some compromise in skill.

Showing an awareness of your shortcomings and a willingness to learn most definitely gives you an edge. Don't sell yourself short. I'm sure, if you got a job, you would be a fast and dedicated learner precisely because you're aware of this -- and that's something employers want.

I sleepwalk while stressed. I've been under a lot of pressure from grad school lately and a new nights ago I woke up outside of my house, in the woods. I just walked back into the house and went to bed. I haven't told anybody else because I feel like they might be creeped out.

This is completely normal, if not super common, and not creepy at all. I think you should at least tell your doctor, because there are some sleep aids that might help with it. You don't want to walk into traffic or fall down stairs or anything.

Sorry you're stressed. Hope it gets better.

That sounds kind of dangerous- is there a way to lock your door and hide the key until morning?

I almost always fucking hate it when someone responds to a reddit comment or whatever that I posted anytime longer than three days later. Eight days? Fuck you, how did you even find this comment? The moment's passed.

(yeah there's been a couple exceptions, but dude, you're not getting a timely conversation)

Funny, because that's what I hate about reddit... that a couple days old post is considered ancient history. Some of us can't check reddit every day, dammit...

Of writing strategies and writers

(Anonymous) 2015-11-07 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
I can respect Stephen King as a writer and admit he's good but his comment about outlining annoyed me.

"Outlines are the last resort of writers who wish to God they were writing a Master thesis"

No, outlines are a legitimate strategy of people who like to know where they're story is going. They are a different method, not a "last resort". Plenty of good novels have been written by outliners.

Not everyone is a pantser, Mr. King.

I guess I'm just sick of writers who get all smug and act like their method is the One True Way because , hey they're a published writer. Lots of people are published writers and lots of people have written them in varied ways.

Ah thank you.

Re: Of writing strategies and writers

(Anonymous) 2015-11-07 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing it was a flippant remark made by someone who has a different way of approaching their work. I don't outline either, but that's because it just doesn't work for me. I wish it did. Though King shouldn't be too smug, some of his novels are horribly bloated with endings that fall flat. Some outlining (and judicious editing) would improve them.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-07 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's not like your outline is set in stone. You can start with one and then change things later if you come up with other ideas. You can sit on a story for a while if you followed the outline, but it doesn't feel right.

I doxxed someone anonymously today because she was doing unethical shit at work and bragging about it on the internet. I cannot wait to see if she loses her job over it.

Stealing? Lying? Screwing someone else over?

Potential theft and/or identity theft. She had some client info she shouldn't have.

I'm really lonely. My real life best friend doesn't enjoy fandom anymore, and I have no one to talk to about the stuff I love. I miss LJ and DW communities. I'm on Tumblr, but it's hard to have conversations about anything there. I would love to start writing again, but I don't have anyone to share it with.

Re: Things you don't want to say elsewhere

(Anonymous) 2015-11-07 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I'm having the exact same problem lately. It's impossible to have any conversations. and I have a hard time finding motivation to write or draw things when literally no one will see it.

I don't feel--I know--that I'm just getting through each day without accomplishing anything. It's like my life is disappearing and I have nothing to show for it.

Set yourself a small, but manageable daily goal and build from there, anon. I know what it's like to feel like there's no point to life but I promise you the best way to combat it is with baby steps toward productivity.

I still don't get why people are so obsessed with drawing 'cute' things. It seems kind of tired.

I'm not sure I'll be able to look at UB40's Red Red Wine again after watching the very end of the video and what it's implying.
