Today's secrets. One mildly interesting, the rest so meh that I can't give a single.

Using this to ask for advice so i don't create a new thread

I am peeved at my mom. And I don't know how to tell her that if it comes to it, I will choose my sister over her.

Have you tried stamping your foot, yelling "I bet you aren't my real mom", then stomping off to your bedroom to listen to whatever the current equivalent of Evanesence is and writing ansty poetry in your black-covered diary?

Is there a reason why you need to communicate this to her? If there is, you can very well say essentially that, if mildly paraphrased. Something like "in this situation, my sister's feelings are my priority", or "I'm on my sister's side and will confront those who antagonize her". I've had to say this exact thing before.

This is really little, but for some reason it bugs me that the Secret Sister thing - since exposed as a kindasorta scam - wasn't really a group of women as much as it was random women who don't know each other.

I dunno, I just liked thinking people were actually doing things with one another.

Kindasorta? It's A FUCKING CENTURY OLD. IT'S ONE OF THE MOST WELL-ESTABLISHED SCAMS IN SCAM HISTORY.

I found out today that PayPal for some unknown reason decided to charge my backup bank account for the Christmas present I preordered my husband three months ago (the charge went through last week) so I got an overdraft fee. They did this because my credit card charges a bit more than my bank does. I don't know why they skipped my main bank account. There are no charges on my credit card so I wasn't over my balance or anything like that and I have plenty of money in my main account.

The main issue I have is that the bank added another overdraft charge because after the 8th of the month they charge an additional overdraft fee every week. My issue is that I didn't even get a notice until today and I didn't realize Paypal didn't charge my credit card until today when I saw the overdraft notice. It's just annoying and I'm mad at myself for not catching it in time to prevent myself from being charged more.

So now instead of paying $10 or whatever it was more I'm $60 more (ugh wasted money). Thanks Paypal. I don't know why you did this. I removed that bank account from Paypal since I don't even use it except to store money for school anymore. I just transferred a bunch of money over to the overdrafted bank account and I'm never using Paypal to preorder again.

"lol defensive" has become such a lazy overdone response to disagreement. Like even if it's an understandable assumption, it's still not much of an argument.

Also on other sites (reddit lol) I cannot count the amount of people who parse any disagreement with them and even the slightest bit of "caring" as 'You're defensive lol'. It comes across like they can't fathom anyone possibly having the opinion against them unless it's defensiveness and then it's just something to laugh at.

It's like "you're just jealous" to me at this point, most times, even if it's technically right, it just looks lazy, dismissive and stupid.

People who think they're cute and clever when they're not. Including certain classmates and coworkers anons on this very site, etc.

All you are is a sad little attention whore whose highlight of the day is annoying people enough to get a reaction/people looking at you.

My back. My dad getting annoyed like I'm giving excuses for not being able to go to the gym. Admittedly it has been three weeks now. But it is not my fault I've had one health problem after another. I'm sorry you had to spend the 10 bucks this month for me. Do you want me to pay you back? But get off my back, please, or I'm going to scream. I had to promise to go Monday to get him to shut up.

Just living at home in general. It is going to be through February at least right now and I honestly want to cry. I am sick of them already. I saw a cute girl today at the grocery store. I almost asked her out, but then I remembered that my parents might disown me and I'd have nowhere to go.

I finally found out how the commission structure at my new job works. You get commission if your average sales are more than $50 an hour. The whole store combined doesn't sell that much.

Also, the expected total sales for each day are $1800. The actual daily sales last year were $700, and this year's worse because they keep sending us crap the other stores can't sell. At this point, I'm wondering whose potted plants the boss pissed in.

FANTASY BOOK READERS, enlighten me please

(Anonymous) 2015-11-08 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm reading the final book of a trilogy I picked up when I was about 13.

AND I AM REALLY PEEVED right now. Are relationships between older men and TEENAGERS normal? That is, "she was a woman of 16", is that normal? If it helps, it's akin to Arthurian legends/ a GoT situation (but it's another world and time), and the guy who's in love with her and who she may have feelings for is about 23 (my age, so I feel uncomfortable, because wth). And while 7 isn't a great deal of difference, at least not once you hit 20...it bothers me that she's 16 (and mind you, EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER has been going on about her beauty since she was 12--there was an obsessed perverted old man, but that was addressed, so...eh.)

Side note: my heart goes out to the beautiful princess's servant girl who is pining after that young king that will never look at her.She too is 15/16, so I'm not too mad.

So yeah, fantasy readers: is this high court marrying a off a "16 year old woman" normal?

(I do realize in history that was quite often the norm, but my modern sensibilities are most offended. And I liked the young king, he was good. Now I'm just mad. Not what I was expecting. They put a young teen on the cover of the book for Pete's sake! I thought she was going to be his daughter. WTF. But she's so damn beautiful, and she understands him, and they have demons, etc. etc. Cry me a river. Please excuse the rant toward the end. Thank you, kind people.

ohhhhhh boy.

Is this old skool fantasy? It sounds like it probably is. That or Piers Anthony. Ugh.

Yeah, I would say that is pretty damn creepy by most readers' standards. I'm also not sure how common young marriages actually WERE in history - I've read stuff indicating otherwise, that such age gaps were rare and usually in cases of royalty marrying off strategically to retain power. Wish I could find you links on that.

It's gotten less normal in the last decade for even high fantasy novels to have that sort of age difference, but yeah, if you're reading old school fantasy it's going to be pretty common. Then again, in a LOT of high fantasy books, everyone is considered an adult at 16...

Re: FANTASY BOOK READERS, enlighten me please

(Anonymous) 2015-11-08 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's a common fantasy trope, partly based on misunderstandings people have of medieval history. Even in the Middle Ages, women weren't necessarily married off that young, or if they were it was a political match and not consummated until she was older. There were exceptions, of course (see: Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII) but that didn't happen often because surprise, your chances of conceiving and bearing a healthy child were better if you weren't a teenager.

The other reason it's a common fantasy trope is because so much fantasy is written by middle aged guys.

Dear Tumblr using cousin

Please stop teaching our neices and nephews all the "social justice" ideas from tumblr, buzzwords and internet insults that they can't even understand.

First of all a lot of the tumblr beliefs you're teaching them are warped or downright inaccurate.

Second, a five year old girl should not be going around calling everyone she doesn't like "neckbeards"

Honestly

I smell like hideous butt right now.

A shower won't help because it's all the shit I ate today, very little veggie to shit ratio. I wonder if I can sweat some of it out before bed.

Sitting on the couch with my tea and a quilt and the dog when someone calls me.

I don't answer. I never answer phone calls on the weekend unless it's urgent. :|
