I would disagree A) since the number of OT fanatics to the number of Star Wars fans, including all the casual ones, is fairly few B) dismissing all the negative ratings needed to pull an average down to 57% as "OT fanatics and nothing to do with the quality of the movie" is too much of a stretch.

Case in point: Why did the Star Trek reboot not get rated down into oblivion by Star Trek fans for not being the original?

Actually, looking at the reviews I bet it was probably quite a bit higher before the 3D re-release. Because at least 20 of the bad reviews are just complaining about the 3D or money grabbing George Lucas.

Also, Star Trek and Star Wars are very differnet. For one, they came out in different movie cultures. In 1999 the idea of a reboot like this was weird. Today it is pretty normal. Also, action packed remakes are more normal these days.

And the Star Trek show vs movies are pretty different audiences.
