Neighbor rants

(Anonymous) 2015-11-08 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a neighbor that lets their two enormous dogs run free through the neighborhood. I don't know which neighbor it is, but these dogs are frequently seen running around, barking loudly at people and small animals, terrorizing and generally causing a ruckus. Seriously, who the hell lets their dogs, especially big dogs, run loose in town? If I knew who it was, I'd request they keep them in their own yard or on a leash, but I'm not sure. One killed a rabbit in my yard and I'm just pissed off.

Anyone have neighbor specific rants? :-/

Our neighbor's son's dog is really loud. It whines all the time. And no one makes it shut up. It spends a lot of time in the backyard, so we hear it all the time.

Ugh. I have nothing personally against dogs, but I'm not really a dog person, one reason is because they are so loud when they bark and whine. I mean, I'm not sure what a dog owner is supposed to do in that case, you can't really control your dog's barking. But it is louuud.

I have a neighbour who stinks up the whole neighbourhood with his fireplace as soon as the temperature drops below 20°C. It's fucking annoying. I also live on a hill and his house is below ours so his chimney is practically right in front of my window and the smoke gets right in every time I open it. And I get killer headaches from the smoke.

My flatmate has friends who think it's really funny to press the doorbell a million times in the middle of the night to call her out. And since I live in a university hall, naturally, people have to smoke directly outside the building door so people are forced to choke when they walk out of the building, or while they key in the building code in a hurry to escape from the smoke as quick as they can. Oh, and it wouldn't be a university hall without people turning on their cars to share their really awesome music with the entire building at maximum volume every night, amirite?

ughhhh, doorway smokers. the worst.

I was glad, when I was at school, that smoking was confined only to specific parts of campus. smoke-free would have been better, but at least I rarely had to smell it and nobody could loiter by the door and make it impossible to avoid the smoke while going in and out.

The lady who keeps feeding the feral cats. These cats are everywhere. They're breeding. It's kitten season and I've already seen a few small tiny heads about. I hate these cats. Stop feeding them. Stop swamping the street in animal killing, disease spreading ferals. :(

Trap neuter release! Some vets will neuter ferals for a discount price. It's better because then you can feed them, in fact, it's great to have strong neutered cats "owning" a territory because they'll keep the cat population down. It's the best way to help these cats.

This might depend on where you live, but isn't something like this a police matter? At least here dogs aren't allowed to run loose.

I'm pretty sure it IS illegal to let dogs roam in town.

My new neighbor is in the process of renovating the house he just bought. Aside from the concern I have that he may be prepping the house to flip it, he and his dad both have these humongous pickup trucks out front. We've already informed them not to park across the street as that's where we park, but I can't stand the sight of these huge motherfucking gas guzzlers on my street. YOU LIVE IN SUBURBAN OHIO YOU DON'T NEED A MOTHERFUCKING ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIER

My neighbors cut down a dead tree and chopped it up. No big deal, right?

Four weeks later, it's still in pieces in their front yard. When they first chopped it down, the sticks were ALL OVER our yard. They're terrible about mowing the lawn too and it's super obvious because my dad is OCD about cutting ours and maintaining a perfect lawn.

Ugh, I don't care for them much but my parents don't seem to mind so I just have to suck it up.

The neighbor across the street has like, 5-6 cars. I don't know if it's all one owner or some sort of housemate thing but this is a smallish suburb. Houses have 2 car garages, room for 4 cars on the driveway if you squeeze and they're not too big. The neighbors like parking their cars on the street and often in front of our house. It doesn't block our driveway and we don't need the street parking but it's still really, really annoying.

My neighbours are really not that bad on most counts. I live in a nice area, though.

Occasionally the toddler next door will have a screaming fit that lasts half an hour, and they hold get-togethers (some kind of Bible study, from what I've gathered) that get a bit loud and giggly. They're always inside before 10pm though.

The neighbour directly across the street has just about the worst piece of shit cars I have ever seen in my life (and the SO's dad was a damn mechanic and the first thing he said upon seeing them were they were piece of shit cars). They're loud and obnoxious, and they pretty much fit his personality perfectly. The blessing here, though, is he only gets unbearable when he's really drunk and that is pretty infrequent all things considered.

The other neighbour has a visitor that is constantly parking in front of my house and it drives me fucking nuts since there's ample parking in front of the place she's actually visiting. However, this has pretty well stopped since my renter got herself a car and is parking in that spot regularly.

...And that's about the only annoying things my neighbours do. Given the amount of renos and construction that we did this summer, I'd say we're probably about even on the annoyance front.

My neighbours on one side have two rambunctious preteen boys - very loud, very energetic. That's a very minor irritation, though, and I'd get over it easily enough but for one thing: they keep losing their balls over our fence.
I own a large dog who tries to eat anything he can fit in his (large) mouth.

Yes, he ate a ball. Yes, it had to be surgically removed. Yes, it was expensive.
No, I'm not happy.

I'd grit my teeth and live with it if we lived in a really built up area, but this is the suburbs! There are three parks within five minutes walk, why can't they go play there?

One of my flat-mates has gotten into the habit of watching cartoons at 1AM using the speakers, not earphones. These walls are NOT soundproof. And I mean that's a good cartoon she's started watching, I can recognise it from the sound, I approve of the choice. But. Some quiet, please? It's the middle of the night?

The other flat-mate has apparently invited two or three random friends to live semi-permanently with her. It's been like a week and there are always random teenagers in the house. They even stay overnight. I was beginning to suspect one of them had ended up temporarily homeless, and was staying here until she could get a proper apartment again, but I asked about that, and apparently she's just visiting.

It used to be just now and then, and like. It was fine if someone stayed over once a week or so. But frankly, I'm getting a bit emotionally exhausted because it's never calm or quiet here anymore. I'm very introverted and it starts getting taxing when the place is full of strangers literally all the time. I have my own room, but again, these walls aren't soundproof, these guests are teenagers, they seem to be cranky and complaining about something all the time. It's kind of a downer in the long run.

Also the shower's taken all the time. And the kitchen. And whoever unloaded the dishwasher the last time clearly has no idea where my stuff goes, so I had to hunt things down before I could make food. At this rate, these people should start paying part of the bills or something, because they're like showering and making food here daily... And the air quality goes down when there's more people breathing, and my skin overreacts to air quality and I get rashes.

Also, someone uses really unneccessarily heavily scented laundry products here.

I live in a flat where the neighbours live across from me so I can look directly unto thier balcony. They have this tiny pompom of a dog that they instead of walking just seem to shove out onto the balcony. Everytime I come out to my balcony he tries to intimidate me. Everytime he is out there and I don't come out he tries to scratch his way back inside.

Arrrrgh. Loose dogs are the worst. We live right on the busiest road in our town, and to have loose dogs running past our house/through our yard, means they are in very *real* danger of being run over. I hate it!

Plus, it makes our dog go utterly mental.

The apartments behind us suck. There is always a tenant who thinks throwing crap (trash, cigarette butts) over the fence between us (eight foot privacy fence) is hilarious or something. Today, I found half a damn watermelon, which i promptly pitched right back over. Really pisses me off. The old couple who own the place *never* answer the rental/office phone and that pisses me off, too. Stop with your fucking trash in my damn yard!

I'm currently caught in the middle of "sound wars" every weekend between the two rooms above me (my bedroom wall is the wall that separates their apartments).

Apartment #1 - has little kids (like, a two-year-old and a four-year-old) over practically every weekend, and no one takes care of them, so they blare music/tv/stomp around/scream/have tantrums all weekend.

Apartment #2 - I can only guess he's trying to drown out the sound of the kids with his T.V. It may work for him, but I get it full blast as well (damn vents).

I am not pleased that I've had to spend money I don't have on various types of earplugs/earbuds just so I don't end up in the emergency psych ward every weekend. :(

(Yes, I've talked to my property manager about it, but since no one else is hearing it (HOW?!?), she can't do anything.)

I feel a little better now. :}

I've thankfully just moved, but our old neighborhood-- which we'd picked because of its quiet, cool vibe-- has been completely overrun by bros. Every night we were dealing with loud parties across the alley and in our own apartment building, into the wee hours of the morning, and no matter how many times we called the cops on them for noise ordinances, it didn't do any good.

Technically where we live now is not a "good" neighborhood (there's a drug/prostitution problem within a couple of blocks of here), it's a million times quieter and our neighbors are wonderful.

I'm the bad neighbor, because I yell at my mom whenever she gets really wasted and I'm on the hunt for her vodka bottle to pour away, and on really bad days I start screaming and crying about all my issues as well. I feel like I should give all my neighbors earplugs.

call animal control and have them take the dog in. force the owners to pay a fine to get their dog back enough times, they just might keep him inside.

Why bother to communicate with the neighbor? Anyone who lets their large aggressive dog terrorize the neighborhood is not someone I want to have personal dealings with. Call Animal Control and let them pick up the beasts and take them to the pound, and fuck anyone who calls that passive-aggressive--that's not what passive-aggressive means.

If asshat neighbor has to pay a fine to bail his dogs out of doggy jail--plus another for violating the leash laws--so much the better!
