I saw some of that but probably missed the worst of it, thankfully. What made me leave was how repetitive it was. Like the same four people searching high and low for things to be angry or nitpicky about, and nine times out of ten, it was the most obvious stuff you could imagine. This wall of misspelled text by someone on ffnet who's probably 12 is in no way professionally written and doesn't reflect a mature understanding of canon or the world in general, you guys! Snore. It was funny sometimes. My favorites were the highly sophisticated and mysterious 19-year-olds who lost their virginity over the weekend and dropped by to tell everyone how totally bogus every last fic writer's sex scenes were, refusing to give examples or elaborate in any way as a handful of people spiralled into self-doubt and begged the enlightened one to look over their stories. This happened at least twice while I was there.

I was never comfortable when people made fun of fans who were probably twelve years old. Especially when they'd link to the fics themselves, which they typically did (I'm not sure if FFR linked, I don't think I ever went there). That's why I avoided pottersues and all those places.

Most of the time I remember people linking was when someone would post a rant about "I left this perfectly reasonable review and the author freaked out on me" and then someone would go find the review and reveal that the review was more insulting than the ranter made it sound. Usually there weren't any links involved otherwise.

Haha, I remember that, too. Why wouldn't this author graciously accept my completely objective and useful concrit that was actually none of those things and was never asked for in the first place?! Good times.

Then there was that one Bleach fan who kept posting rants about the numerous troll reviewers who berated her for writing slash and for using British spelling. They would get a ton of comments from American users apologizing for their countrymen and saying "we're not all like that!" Finally the worm turned and someone said "You've posted so many rants like this, a cynical person might think you were trolling yourself. Especially when the 'American' troll slips up now and then and uses British English." OP got all huffy--"And who are you again?"--and then revealed that her brother was trolling her. Suuuuuuuure.

The funniest part of all: she was also regularly posting rants about over-the-top outrageous rudeness and xenophobia on bad_service, and also getting a shitton of comments.

Oh man, I think I remember that one a little. I do remember people claiming to be harassed for writing slash in a very retro way that the commenters found questionable, and those claims tending to fall apart. Self-trolling must be the most difficult form of trolling to endure. lol
