This. Honestly, I was on LJ for my first taste of fandom and I picked the communities I joined and the friends who shared my interest. I never ran into any drama. If there was a toxic and drama filled community then I could just avoid it.

Tumblr has no privacy at all. Fandom shares the tags and there is no designated safe and private space for anyone. Anyone can create an account and follow you without needing your approval. Anyone can post drama starting post in the shared fandom tags. Anyone can reblog a persons post and add onto it trying to start drama. Anon hate is always prevalent.

I don't doubt there was some bad stuff going on with LJ, but at least it was contained to certain communities that you could avoid and you could set your blog to friends only.

The only way to be safe on tumblr is to turn off anon asks and never venture past your dashboard where you have carefully selected to follow blogs that won't get involved in fandom drama. Also never make a post using fandom tags. If you use a keyword in your post be sure to separate the words like t////hi.s.
