And then you've got me using GIMP. (I'm sorry my secrets are so butt-ugly! I don't own any other image editor!)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't either, but I use online ones like the OP:

https://pixlr.com
http://www.picmonkey.com
http://www.picfont.com

just for starters.

Wait, what's wrong with GIMP? It's always worked fine for my needs.

The only way I know to do legible text in GIMP on anything other than a white background is to surround it with a thick outline. If it's not thick, it's not legible, and if it is thick, it still looks ugly.

I like putting my GIMP text on semi-transparent colored boxes, personally. I don't think I've seen many others do it really.

I like GIMP! ... But I don't know how to make secrets in GIMP either. About the only thing I know how to do in GIMP is tweak color and occasionally take out a background. (Badly, at that.)

So I use a combination of paint, Picasa and GIMP. It's way too involved, lol.

I use Paint.NET myself, and it's actually pretty neat. I was very proud of myself for using layer effects to make a very spifftastic secret once! :D

There are so many sites I've never even heard of...this being one of them. Now I want to see if I can make a decentish secret with it too!

I can teach you how to outline text in GIMP.

* Type your text.
* Layer -> Transparency-> Alpha to Selection selects the text. (I have no idea why this is in the Layer menu.)
* Select -> Grow makes the selection area larger by a few pixels.
* Create a new layer and put it between the text layer and the image layer, then select that new layer.
* Edit -> Fill with BG Color. Use whatever color you want the outline to be.

It's clunky, but it works.

(The really hard trick is to import two images into GIMP and combine them into one image. I never remember how I did it when I actually get it to work.)

Thanks! I'm gonna attempt it later; I've always done text in Picasa.

I never would've found this out on my own, lol.

Waaaay back, an anon admitted they deliberately mimic the font/layout/colors of other peoples' secrets to create confusion about how many users were submitting. Was that you, OP?

Lol, and I use as many different fonts as possible.

But then, I have Paint soooo.... not like it's a lot.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I tend to use comics fonts because that's what my computer is full of. I worry that anyone who reads a lot of manga scanlations notices my blatant use of Trashhand and AstroCity, Komika and Wild Akuma... I always notice when I see someone else use comic fonts.
