It wasn't a fetish. Richard O'Brien came out as genderqueer recently and I'm pretty sure the reason why there's so much gender stuff in his creations is that he was using it to deal with his own gender confussion. Cause, believe it or not, the concept of genderqueerness as a label to express certain gender experiences is pretty recent.

Recently?? This is a guy who was ... defying description for decades.

Yeah, but he started using the label "genderqueer" recently, because as I said, the label itself is a pretty new thing.

If by "recent" you mean "25 years or so."

But at least the interview I saw with O'Brien was pretty complexly gendered, which is par for the course. And RHPS comes from a generation that didn't compartmentalize LGBT to the extent we see now.

Personally I'd rather see more original movies of substance with WOC as the main character.

I mean seriously, is the remake of a camp classic really the only story Hollywood can think of to tell?
