So much salt!

I'm with you. The fetish of the original writer is much less important than the message you choose to carry.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah screw context of the original story! Replace all white cis male scum with proud transwomyn of color! Have Laverne Cox play James Bond! YAY SOCIAL JUSTICE!

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I like Laverne Cox but she'd make a terrible Bond. She's not British.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
What if she identifies as British?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Are you trolling or just stupid?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
You cisnationalist bigot

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Cannot. stop. laughing!

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
My guess is both.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I lol'd

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of American's identify as Irish with very little connection to Ireland...I kinda don't see why trans-nationality isn't a thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't a fetish. Richard O'Brien came out as genderqueer recently and I'm pretty sure the reason why there's so much gender stuff in his creations is that he was using it to deal with his own gender confussion. Cause, believe it or not, the concept of genderqueerness as a label to express certain gender experiences is pretty recent.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Recently?? This is a guy who was ... defying description for decades.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-11 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but he started using the label "genderqueer" recently, because as I said, the label itself is a pretty new thing.

If by "recent" you mean "25 years or so."

But at least the interview I saw with O'Brien was pretty complexly gendered, which is par for the course. And RHPS comes from a generation that didn't compartmentalize LGBT to the extent we see now.

I do. Don't you?

Gosh I feel old.

I apologize, usually I've been seeing arguments that LGBT identities are binary and cis-only and recognizing Frank N' Furter as our gateway drug to bisexuality and genderqueer is some new-fangled redefinition done to spite tumblr pansexuals.
