Literally exactly my reaction.

This shouldn't be a secret, OP. This is what we should all aspire to!

I watched the Golden Girls all day every day in high school when I was stuck at home, and it had such a profound positive effect on my life! I didn't have any friends at school, and a lot of the time, I wasn't even in school, so I was very isolated and alone, but the Golden Girls helped, and they taught me a lot of the things I hold so dear as an adult.

So it's a damn worthy friendship/life goal to have!

Yeah, I wanna live in a house with my friends plus what you're talking about. People tell me that's something only young people do when they're saving money. "Then they marry and want their own place and you'll be alone! So go get married too!"

But hey, I'mma keep my dream if you keep yours, OP.

I feel like someone should tell those people that that's a really bad reason to get married.

I've tried telling people that. They don't really get it. They just assume I'm going to find someone I want to be with... as an aromantic asexual. 'Cause, you know, maybe I'm wrong and the right person just isn't here yet and I'm so closed minded, blah blah blah. It's by rote now. (So by the assumption that I have to fall in love at some point then obviously I should married to this hypothetical person and problem solved. Because finding a person to bind yourself to forever and ever is easy.)

I mean, one lady was so insistent and worried for me because of it she literally lectured me about it for over an hour.

Either way, makes me believe in my dream more simply out of spite.

So ... a handful of my friends and I are all currently mid-to-late 30s, and single. A couple of years ago one person started talking about founding a retirement colony in Hawaii or the like, where we'd buy some sizable acreage, and plop down prefab minihouses, and we'd have a community garden, where one person is responsible for the beans, and one person for the cucumbers, and one person for the tomatoes, and so on. And there'd be a barn/large shed for bike storage (we all do endurance touring together now, but we figure we might need to transition to trikes when we're older).

I don't have all the numbers on me right now, but we ran the numbers projecting cost of living for 2050 (when we're hitting retirement) and what the buy in would be, and how much space for different numbers of people.

So yeah, basically my friends and I have planned our own retirement center/commune. I feel like there are worse retirement plans.

I want this! Oh my word! That sounds so great! I'm so happy for you.

There is so much happiness in this secret and it's amazing to think that it was done through such an off color show. I mean, just 4 old ladies. But it was perfect.

I'm 22 and wish I could live with them, lol.

This is a GOOD goal.

But if one of you leaves the group, make sure you don't react by running a hotel. Bad things seem to happen.
