I don't think people should be reasonably expected to use gender pronouns that aren't male or female, or at least "they" as a neutral pronoun.

I support trans people using the bathroom of their identified gender, but only if they are presenting that gender and 100% identify with that gender. When people who identify as "genderqueer" weigh in on the debate I just give no fucks. I don't see the big deal in using the bathroom of the gender you appear to be. I don't think gender segregated toilets are a bad thing.

TBH I just so don't care who uses the bathroom with me.

But I do sort of draw the line at neo pronouns or whatever they're called. He, she, they should cover the spectrum.

I agree on the pronouns. He/she/they should cover it.

Honestly, who cares who uses which bathroom as long as they shut the stall door?

I've never heard anyone demand people use any weird, made-up pronouns outside of tumblr.

I have. I'm a lesbian and joined my university's LGBT group. Loads of people demanding "ze" and one girl (or whatever, she said she was genderqueer) who wanted something different, can't remember exactly what. Kind of baffling.

Huh. I thought that was a strictly internet only phenomenon. Do you know if they made these demands in their classes too?

I have no idea, none of them were classmates. Seems like it's a pretty tough battle to fight outside of the internet or social justice groups, but who knows. I've found that university LGBT groups become increasingly ... well, I hate to say SJW, but. yeah. I mean groups like that often are more of a social justice interest group, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I felt that one went a bit too far for what I was personally willing to commit to. My freshman year, it was mostly about more basic gay/transgender issues, and mostly served as a way to meet other queer students (that was before gay marriage passed, of course). By my senior year, it felt like it was all about being angry, and so I stopped going.

I kinda wish the English language had some gender-neutral, singular pronoun that would be commonly used, and could be used when unclear about someone's gender, or talking about unknown/unspecific/generalised people, and nb people could use that, and it'd be like this standard everyday thing. "They" is kinda used for that now, but it causes confusion because it sounds plural (tbh "you" has the same problem, but at least everyone KNOWS it's used singularly too. Also people use "you" for the people they're talking to, who already know whether they're one person or multiple people, whereas "they" and such are often used about people who aren't present).

I mean, half the timeusing "they" about one specific person is followed by having to explain that I'm not talking about multiple people.

My native language doesn't even have gendered pronouns, we only have the gender-neutral one. Seems to have saved us from a lot of hassle. (We also have different words for plural and singular "you".)

Pronouns are supposed to be these "invisible" words. They're used so that you don't have to repeat a person's name or some noun over and over again. This is why the flashier type of neo-pronouns don't really serve their function very well (plus, it's just plain unreasonable to expect everyone to learn infinite customised neo-pronouns. That's what names and nicknames are for.) So the hypotethical singular neutral pronoun should probably be something simple that fits with "she" and "he". "Ze" could probably work, although I'm a bit wary of the Z in there. It... sounds better than it looks written.

Something like "ae" or just plain "E" might not be a bad idea.

Seconded. If they're not actively bothering me or anyone else, I don't see an issue. I'm there to do my business and get out, not analyze someone's gender.

Adding on that if someone was being bothersome in a restroom, their gender would be the least of my concerns at that point. Harassment would be scary regardless of who's doing it.

I don't need to have any awareness of the private parts of the person in a bathroom stall that I, myself, am not currently in.

And like... do people get squicked specifically when they think someone with different genitals might have used the same bathroom at some point? Because like. People using bathrooms is sort of squicky regardless. If it's a public bathroom, then chances are, a bunch of people have pooped, peed, had diarrhea, vomited, and/or menstruated there anyway (and other things I'm not gonna list.) What sex/gender these people have been is like... really not the most gross detail here.

I'm trans and ia, making up more pronouns is nonsense. like it or not, the world is gendered male or female, pick whichever one bothers you less and stick to it.

I support trans people but privately, I think the whole ze/zir stuff is seriously dumb.

I find the pronoun thing to be a bit ~special snowflake~, as too many people insisting on their own unique variation would end up becoming difficult to remember if too many people are doing it at once in the one place. If someone does not want to ascribe to he or she, at least plural "they" is a common concept for indeterminate gender.
