(Anonymous) 2015-11-12 12:23 am (UTC)(link)But I agree that rooting for the Serenity crew does not mean rooting for the Confederacy. Like I say, it's not 1 to 1. I think the aspect that you could say is problematic is how often a lot of the arguments that Mal uses, and a lot of the way that the show presents its own world - how often that mirrors the narrative of Confederate apologia & the self-understanding of ex-Confederates. Which I think is fucked up especially because that's a powerful and still-extent ideology. But that's a different thing from saying that Mal Is Literally A CSA Soldier.
