[Video Games, The Last Of Us]

Oh, fuck off, you're one of those obnoxious "gamers" who judges other people based o whether they're as much of a gamer as you.

Yes, people like you suck all the fun out of everything.

Or, they just got into gaming because they were too young to have been able to play much before 2013. Or, they haven't had the money to buy games till recently. Or, who gives a crap why someone gets into something as long as they truly enjoy and appreciate it.

So...your S!B actually made me laugh.

Anyway, they might have at first picked up those games because they saw a pretty gifset or three. But if they did, who cares? That doesn't make their enjoyment of them any less valid.

I don't think it should matter what inspires someone to do something as long as they ultimately get something positive out of it.

There's nothing wrong with liking a game that is recent. Even though the secret is talking about recent games, circa 2013, I also feel like chiming in with games from the past (meaning games from NES, SNES, N64, Dreamcast, Playstation, PS2 being examples). I remember hit N64 games I've wanted, such as GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask being so super expensive for the time, my mom couldn't get them for me as a kid. Now that I'm in my late 20s, I'm making up for lost time by playing the emulation (in the case of Ocarina of Time, I'm playing the 3DS remake). Sure the graphics are laughable by today's standard, it's still fun in a retro sort of way and makes me wished that I've played these games during the time of their releases. Same goes for SNES releases of A Link to the Past and Final Fantasy VI (which was released as III here in the states). I also wanted to include Pokemon RSE for the Gameboy Advance onto this story, as I've never played them before (I was in that phase in high school at the time, in which I was "too old" for Pokemon). Now I want to make up for lost time via ORAS.

Now fast forward, I still want to play "The Last of Us", along with "Mass Effect" and "Destiny".

Who cares if someone gets into something late in the game. If they appreciate it, let them be. Everyone's entitled to enjoy something as he or she pleases.

Right, because no one wants to only list what they are relevantly currently into, or maybe because they just got into gaming... >_>

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you obviously know it's unfair, hence the secret, so I see no point in berating you.

To some extent, I think I even do the same. I know it's unfair and I don't mean to. Though I think it's more if you're like "Final Fantasy XIII is the best Final Fantasy!" but you've only played X, XII and XIII. Like, trying to make blanket judgments about a series without actually having played most in that series. Then I get a little judgey.

Obviously what other people like doesn't affect my quality of life at all, but I think most people are prone to some tiny level of elitism in their hobbies, so I get it.

my favourite game of all time is still one that came out in 1987

Or, you know, they just recently got into it or recently bought a new console and are loving it.

Favourites change and usually refers to what you're most passionate about at that point in time - which, no shit, is going to be new, fresh material.

At least you know it's silly.

Even if they did get into the games because of pretty gifs or fanart it doesn't matter; what matters is they enjoyed the media once they experienced it. (And frankly, I don't care if someone doesn't have access to a game and watches a let's play instead.)

How ARE people supposed to be introduced to a game? Only through gaming site previews? Only through word of mouth? Why is 'through tumblr' not okay? (If something sparks your interest that's the important thing, right?)

Anyway, there's lots of reasons someone might prefer recent games (they only started getting into games, their particular tastes are being catered to, whatever); don't see what it matters.

(Btw, The Last of Us is a damn good game. I'm not in the least bit ashamed to say it's one of my favorites!)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Or those are their favorites *right now* because they recently played them

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
If your favorite video game isn't the easter egg Word 97 pinball game, you're not a Real Gamer (tm)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Unless your favourite game is Pong, you're not REEEEEAAAL GAMER!

Why do you care what games other people like?
So what if they get into from pretty gifs?

But what if they're a kid? Chances are their fave games will be recent releases, like how most of my fave games are from the 90's because that's when I grew up.

(never mind that I don't think it matters how recent a person fave game is anyway...).

That's what tumblr's for, tho? One big pimping machine?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I think the best response is not "Ugh, you're such a non-gamer", but rather "Hey, you like games? Here's a bunch that came out a while ago that you may not have considered, but are worth a try!"

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Rolls my eyes into eternity. As someone who is just getting into gaming this year and is starting with the most popular ones my friends recommend to me, sorry for not having a wide enough reference pool for you.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god. This makes me eyeroll so hard.

You do realise there are reasons other than aesthetics for that? Like oh, age, parents, previous financial situation... Just shut up and crawl back into your hole.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
man i remember when the johnny come latelys we scoffed at were the ones who had only played the new shiny FF, which is to say, 7.

gaming rule: like whatever you like.

Haters gonna hate, but I agree. I tend to assume they're 13 years old. And honestly I'm not really sure I want to hang out with 13 year olds on tumblr.

I only HAD a platform to play games (yes my old computer was that old and that slow, flash games were a problem for it) in 2009, and shockingly, most of the games on my favourites list are ones from that point onward. Not everyone grew up with a console for most of their life, and not everyone has the time or will to play the "classics" just because someone else said they had to.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I pretty much agree. If someone's favorite games are only the ones that are popular on Tumblr at the time, I definitely side-eye them.
