Rant Thread
Re: Rant Thread
I'm very pro-Palestinian. I think that Western cultures are very Islamaphobic. And I'm against most of the military action we've taken in the last decade or two.
But, that being said, there is a difference between killing civilians and military action. And the fact that you can't see that and decide, while making a half-hearted sympathetic comment towards what happened in France, to say that Obama "dropping bombs on Arab countries" is the same pisses me off so very, very much.
Not an appropriate comment, certainly not today. Don't get me wrong, I'm against the same bombing you are. But those two things are not comparable. And right now I'm kind of rethinking our friendship.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)Ugh. Anyone who says these people deserved what happened to them is a sick moron and they just need to stop talking. And anyone who blames all Muslims for the actions of a few psychos is equally as stupid. Fanning the flames will NOT help solve a damn thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 04:42 am (UTC)(link)It's depressing. That people like this exist is disheartening. I just don't know where all of this is going to end.
Re: Rant Thread
(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 01:53 am (UTC)(link)Japan is fine. Other areas in the world are not.
Re: Rant Thread
(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 02:13 am (UTC)(link)so...yeah, re-evaluate. Just because it wasn't a big loud event that "looks not fine" doesn't mean it doesn't fuck things up. especially in areas all ready trying to recover, it just adds an extra layer of damage to existing efforts.
and...people can give a shit about multiple places at once. you don't have one location care quota per day. it's not a competition.
Re: Rant Thread
(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 02:20 am (UTC)(link)Literally nothing happened.
Re: Rant Thread
To rehash the whole "pray for Japan" thing now when literally nothing happened is a bit weird. The biggest news in Japan right now is the things that are/have been happening in Paris.
Re: Rant Thread
(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 06:26 am (UTC)(link)1) Given recent history, you cannot possibly blame people for feeling a tiny bit of panic when they hear the word "tsunami". I mean come on:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_T%C5%8Dhoku_earthquake_and_tsunami
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake_and_tsunami
Yes, this tsunami is not the same magnitude and so far no damage has been reported. But people remember, and they worry and this is not at ALL unreasonable. If your house burned down and you lost your family ten years ago, you'd probably get worried if you just saw a little bit of smoke coming out of your newly rebuilt house, yes? And anyone who told you that you were making a big fuss over nothing would be an insensitive dick.
2) People expressing concern over one part of the world does not take anything away from any other part of the world. Empathy does not work that way. Let's say my 87 year old grandma has fallen and broken a hip. That's very serious for her, and naturally her family would be very worried. Is it as serious as all the people who died in Paris today? Well, no. But here's the thing: pain and suffering is not a contest. We're not awarding medals to people or countries who are suffering the most, and we don't shush people or countries we judge to be suffering less than others. I can feel sorrow for Paris and its people and still be concerned about my grandma. People who tell me that I should pipe down about my grandma because of Paris are being insensitive dicks.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 07:38 am (UTC)(link)I recall multiple instances where people have been accused of not 'really' being suicidal, autistic, DID, or abused and those threads have been frozen as well.
