Rant Thread

Rant Thread because I really need to rant.
philstar22: (Eleven really rude)

Re: Rant Thread

I just want to give a big "fuck you" to certain friends of mine who are so focused on their pet issue they can't see past it.

I'm very pro-Palestinian. I think that Western cultures are very Islamaphobic. And I'm against most of the military action we've taken in the last decade or two.

But, that being said, there is a difference between killing civilians and military action. And the fact that you can't see that and decide, while making a half-hearted sympathetic comment towards what happened in France, to say that Obama "dropping bombs on Arab countries" is the same pisses me off so very, very much.

Not an appropriate comment, certainly not today. Don't get me wrong, I'm against the same bombing you are. But those two things are not comparable. And right now I'm kind of rethinking our friendship.

Bodies aren't even cold, and I've already head Muslims say France deserved it, and Europeans say we should nuke all Arab countries. I'm sickened, and I think we're fucked.

Ugh. No country deserves this. No one does. Yes, France is Islamophobic. Does not mean innocent civilians deserve this. And it also doesn't mean the actions of a few make all Muslims evil or justify that kind of response.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, geez. Yes, people, that's the perfect solution to this bullshit.

Ugh. Anyone who says these people deserved what happened to them is a sick moron and they just need to stop talking. And anyone who blames all Muslims for the actions of a few psychos is equally as stupid. Fanning the flames will NOT help solve a damn thing.

Yup. There is just so much overwhelmingly horrifying things in this world. There are some times where it is really overwhelming, and this is one of those days.

Re: Rant Thread

If it helps, the world has never been safer than it is now and is becoming more and more peaceful and safe.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry nope; just tonight it sure doesn't feel peaceful and sage.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
It is and it isn't. I know what you're saying; I've read some interesting books that deal with the levels of violence and the trends throughout history. And in a lot of ways, we do live in a very safe world. The flipside is that with today's technology, and our 'smaller' world, the lunatic fringe can stage large-scale terrorist acts that reach a global audience almost immediately.

It's depressing. That people like this exist is disheartening. I just don't know where all of this is going to end.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
This feels stupid but I'm so annoyed by all the people being like "OH NO JAPAN" right now. It's like none of them actually read the article they're linking. The earthquake was off the coast and the tsunami was 30 cm tall. That's ONE FOOT. There are bigger waves on the Great Lakes.

Japan is fine. Other areas in the world are not.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
a foot of water can go quite far across flat surface. while damage isn't immediately obvious to people, that settled water does major long term damage, kills crops, poisons drinking water and destroys buildings/roads/walkways. not to mention the spread of disease and disease spreading insects.

so...yeah, re-evaluate. Just because it wasn't a big loud event that "looks not fine" doesn't mean it doesn't fuck things up. especially in areas all ready trying to recover, it just adds an extra layer of damage to existing efforts.

and...people can give a shit about multiple places at once. you don't have one location care quota per day. it's not a competition.

Re: Rant Thread

There was no flooding and no damage.

Literally nothing happened.
fishnchips: (Eh)

Re: Rant Thread

[personal profile] fishnchips 2015-11-14 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is that people are mindlessly parroting the "18.000 dead or missing" number without any of them doing a quick date check on that info.
To rehash the whole "pray for Japan" thing now when literally nothing happened is a bit weird. The biggest news in Japan right now is the things that are/have been happening in Paris.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of dumb, yes.

1) Given recent history, you cannot possibly blame people for feeling a tiny bit of panic when they hear the word "tsunami". I mean come on:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_T%C5%8Dhoku_earthquake_and_tsunami
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake_and_tsunami

Yes, this tsunami is not the same magnitude and so far no damage has been reported. But people remember, and they worry and this is not at ALL unreasonable. If your house burned down and you lost your family ten years ago, you'd probably get worried if you just saw a little bit of smoke coming out of your newly rebuilt house, yes? And anyone who told you that you were making a big fuss over nothing would be an insensitive dick.

2) People expressing concern over one part of the world does not take anything away from any other part of the world. Empathy does not work that way. Let's say my 87 year old grandma has fallen and broken a hip. That's very serious for her, and naturally her family would be very worried. Is it as serious as all the people who died in Paris today? Well, no. But here's the thing: pain and suffering is not a contest. We're not awarding medals to people or countries who are suffering the most, and we don't shush people or countries we judge to be suffering less than others. I can feel sorrow for Paris and its people and still be concerned about my grandma. People who tell me that I should pipe down about my grandma because of Paris are being insensitive dicks.

I'm in shreds right now over someone I considered to be a mentor that turned around and wants to pretend I don't exist now that she's found a 'better' student than me. It is an unfair comparison and pisses me off considering I've known her for two years and she knows that I've worked my ass off to maintain my job. This student makes stupid mistakes in her work too and I am so tempted to report her. I know it will just come across as vindictive because these people like to play favorites. I'm so mad because this is hurting the future of my career. I want vengence so badly and I hope I can get into my favorite program just to spite them all. FUCK THESE ASSHOLES

Re: Rant Thread

It bothers me how protective Case is of some members here. They're permitted to do or say anything, but anyone who criticizes or questions them is labeled a troll and has their comments frozen or worse deleted. I just don't think that's good moderating. Is it because those members have been here a long time? Or is it just because they're usually male?

I know Fandom Secrets isn't supposed to be a safe space, but don't you think it should?

Re: Rant Thread

No. No to everything about this post. You were shit stirring and got called on it. Deal with it.

Re: Rant Thread

(Anonymous) 2015-11-14 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
If dethtoll were allowed to do or say anything, his threads would never be frozen. Which is provably false.

I recall multiple instances where people have been accused of not 'really' being suicidal, autistic, DID, or abused and those threads have been frozen as well.

Stop trolling or at least make an effort to be subtle, everyone's sick of your shit already. FS is fine barring shit stirrers like you spoiling it for everyone else. If you don't like how things are here go make your own comm, literally no one is stopping you.
